From 1994 to October 2003 Richard J Goldstone was a justice of
the Constitutional Court of South Africa. He was the first Chief
Prosecutor of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunals for
the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. In 1999 and 2000 he chaired the
Independent International Commission on Kosovo and in 2002 and 2003 he
co-chaired the International Bar Association’s Task Force on
International Terrorism. In 1994 he received the International Human
Rights Award of the American Bar Association in recognition of the role
he played in South Africa’s transition from Apartheid to democracy. He
is a foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an
honorary member of the Association of the Bar of City of New York, an
Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple, London, and an Honorary Fellow of
St John’s College, Cambridge.
